Last week, the Swiss Federal Council passed a new regulation aimed at curbing unwanted calls from health insurance companies. The new rule will come into effect on September 1.
The regulation specifically targets cold calling potential new customers—contacting individuals who have never been insured with the company or have not been insured by them for more than three years. This rule now applies to all insurance companies. Previously, only insurers who had agreed to an industry-wide accord were subject to this regulation.
In addition to the ban on cold calling, insurance brokers are now required to document and have their customers sign off on consultation discussions. Furthermore, the compensation for brokers has been capped at 70 Swiss francs per insured person.
We welcome these changes and hope that they will finally put an end to the relentless phone harassment that many have experienced. These measures should lead to a more respectful and customer-friendly approach in the insurance industry.
